Snapchat launches its paid plan, at $3.99 per month

Snap, the parent company of the Snapchat application, announces the launch of its new paid subscription. It will unlock exclusive features and early access.

“Today we’re launching Snapchat+, a collection of exclusive, experimental and preview features available on Snapchat for $3.99 per month”indicates Snap in a statement.

As we reported it a few days ago, Snapchat had been testing a paid formula internally for a few weeks. It’s now official, the subscription is available and will be charged around 4 dollars per month. Or about 3.8 euros. He should offer “a collection of exclusive features” et “experimental”. The user will be able to designate a “best friend” to pin the conversation to the top of the chats screen. It is also possible to change the app icon and see who has watched their story multiple times.

New features, like pinning, are the heart of Snapchat Premium. On the other hand, new features related to interactions with other people will eventually be available to everyone, says Jacob Andreou, senior vice president of products for the company at The Verge. Note that advertisements will remain at the heart of the application’s business model. And this, even for subscribers to the paid formula, says the vice-president.

The formula is currently taking its first steps in the United States, England, Germany and France. “We will expand to other countries over time”, says Snap. To take advantage of this, users need to go to their profile and tap on the new “Snapchat+” menu.
