Sociologist, historian dr. Arūnė Liucija Arbušauskaitė

“A sailor who knew ancient Greek and Latin. Sailing referee, 1980 refereed in the Olympic regatta in Tallinn. A philologist who did the greatest work in the field of historical research. Deputy of the first Neringa municipal council after the restoration of independence and researcher of the multiple migrations of Klaipėda region residents in the 20th century, she was one of the first to blow the dust off numerous documents in the archives of Lithuania, Russia, Germany and the United States. All this is one person who has dedicated 36 years to work in higher education institutions in Klaipėda”, – this is how Klaipėda University responded about the colleague.

AL Arbušauskaitė graduated from Vilnius University (classical philology). For ten years from 1968, he worked at the Kaunas West Faculty of Vilnius University, then at the Klaipėda Faculty of the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute.

Since 1991, he taught at Klaipėda University, worked at Klaipėda University’s Western Lithuania and Prussian History Center, from 2007 to 2014 at the University’s Institute of History and Archeology of the Baltic Region.

Fields of scientific research: forced migration processes in the former East Prussia, aspects of the ethnic identity of the inhabitants of the Klaipėda region.

Highlights: “Optants of Lithuania: Klaipėda residents 1939 „(2001), „Population exchange between Lithuania and Germany according to 1941 January 10 the contract “ (2002), „Anšlius and the residents of Klaipėda region (1939–1944)” (2010).

Published historical sources of Klaipėda and Karaliaučius regions (part with others). He has published more than 30 scientific articles in Lithuanian and foreign publications.

Farewell will be held at “Rekviem” funeral home (Jonavos st. 41A, Kaunas), from Wednesday at 3 p.m. In the “Stars” hall.

Thursday at 2 p.m. ALarbušauskaitė will be buried in the Petrašiūnai cemetery.
