Mogadishu – Somalia’s ex-president Hassan Sheik Mohamud was re-elected head of state of the East African country on Sunday. In the election for the highest office in the state, Mohamud prevailed against 35 candidates, including incumbent Abdullah Farmajo. He replaced Mohamud in power in 2017. Farmajo’s term expired in February 2021, but after political talks about election modalities failed, he extended his term despite strong criticism.
