“Someone shouted, ‘Fire!'” – 61-year-old died in an apartment fire in Liefering

A fatal apartment fire broke out in an apartment on Stauffeneggstrasse in Salzburg-liefering on Thursday night.

According to the police report, the accident happened around 12:50 a.m. in the multi-party building. The police, citing witness statements, reported that smoke was coming from the apartment and someone was shouting “fire”.

When the police and professional fire brigade arrived, massive smoke might be seen coming from the window of an apartment on the ground floor. The firefighters had to open the locked door to the apartment. At the shelter, they found a 61-year-old man lying on the ground.

The local died at the scene despite repeated attempts at resuscitation by the emergency doctor. The investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by the criminal department of the Salzburg City Police Command.
