Sony: The company hasn’t made a decision to bring Death Stranding to Xbox Game Pass on PC

Microsoft company yesterday confirmed imminent release Death Stranding in subscription Xbox Game Pass on PC. This will happen on August 23rd.

Although the publisher of the computer version is 505 Gamesthe news was still surprising given that the Death Stranding trademark is the property of Sony Interactive Entertainmentand the development of the game was carried out at the expense of the Japanese platform holder.

However, in a comment to Push Square, a Sony spokesperson confirmed that the company had “nothing to do” with the addition of Death Stranding to Microsoft’s subscription service.

According to him, all issues related to the release of Death Stranding on the PC are the responsibility of Kojima Productions and 505 Games. SIE did not make a decision to release the game on Game Pass.

“The release of Death Stranding on PC is the responsibility of Kojima Productions and 505 Games. SIE has nothing to do with this promotion.”

This raises the question, how did Kojima and 505 Games manage to strike a deal with Sony where the latter has no control over where its product will be distributed? A similar situation has already been observed with a series MLB The Show from SHE San Diego Studiowhich since 2021 began to be released on Xbox consoles immediately in Game Pass, but Sony had no choice there, otherwise the company could lose the license to release the popular line of sports sims.

At the same time, the original version of Death Stranding will get into the PC Game Pass, and not the re-release Director’s Cut. The latter was also published by 505 Games, but it is possible that a different agreement was made for this version.
