Sony unveils its new ZV-1F camera, entirely focused on vlogging

The Japanese manufacturer brings a new version of its ZV-1 camera, designing a device dedicated to vlogging and shooting faces.

A vlog is mainly either faces in front the camera, or landscapes. With its 20mm ƒ/2 ultra-wide-angle lens, Sony’s newest iteration of the camera wants to offer the ability to show both at their best.

A simpler device than its parent model

The ZV-1F camera extends the Sony ZV-1 range by specializing the product towards a very specific use case. All the technology implemented in the device has been designed to film faces up close and landscapes. Thus, the ultra-wide-angle lens makes it easier to show the background and provide a more natural bokeh effect. That is, a slight artistic blur behind the subject.

The ZV-1F relies on a 1″ 20.1 megapixel CMOS sensor. It has 425 focus points (contrast detection) and can reach an ISO sensitivity of 12,800.

On the software side, everything seems to have been done to minimize retouching after filming (you can obviously film in LOG to keep control of all the settings). The ZV-1F has a “Soft Skin Effect” function which softens the features of the skin while filming. A function which, coupled with the auto exposure prioritized on faces and Creative Appearance, which adds some light effects, considerably reduces the time spent on calibration after filming.

An easy-to-use model

The directional microphone facing the front of the camera, equipped with a windscreen, allows optimal sound capture by avoiding natural interference (wind, traffic noise, etc.). Its small format of 10.5 x 6 x 4.6 cm for 256 g with the battery and the memory card, allows the transport of the device anywhere easily.

Its 7.5 cm swivel and touchscreen LCD screen offers easy handling even while filming, the press release tells us.

Sony wants to enable budding content creators to quickly share their creations. The Imagine Edge Mobile Plus in-house application gives them carte blanche in this regard. By connecting the camera via Bluetooth or wifi to your computer and using the application, it is possible to transfer the images taken or marked clips and thus share them on social networks in a few minutes.

The device, which can also act as a camera for streaming, will go on sale on October 22 at 650 €.
