Deezer, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music… and soon TikTok Music? The music streaming market could have a new major player, driven by the success of its video application.

According to Business Insider, quoted by Digital, ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, reportedly filed for the “TikTok Music” trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in May. The request includes details regarding a mobile application “that would allow users to buy, play, share, download music, songs, albums, lyrics”.

The application would also make it possible to create playlists and share them, and to broadcast “live audio and video”.

ByteDance has already launched a similar feature in 2020 in Brazil, India, and Indonesia. Called Resso, the latter is directly integrated into the TikTok application, and allows the user to listen to the long version of music.

The stakes are enormous for the Chinese giant: TikTok has nearly a billion users worldwide.
