S&P 500 records longest weekly winning streak since 2017

New York Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams said on Friday that it was too early to talk regarding lowering interest rates, which limited the tone of optimism.

Williams’ statements come following the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged at its meeting this December.

Stock movements

During the past week, US stock indices recorded a collective rise, as the Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose by 2.49 percent, reaching the level of 4719.19 points and completing the longest series of weekly gains since 2017.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average also rose by 2.92 percent last week, reaching the level of 37,305.16 points.

The Nasdaq Composite Index recorded a weekly increase of 2.85 percent, reaching 14,813.92 points.

During the last sessions of the week, Friday, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index closed down 4.52 points, or 0.10 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite index rose 52.36 points, or 0.25 percent.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average also rose 35.59 points, or 0.10 percent.
