SpaceX Starship Super-Heavy Rocket Successfully Launches Third Test Flight

The Starship super-heavy rocket developed by SpaceX successfully launched its third test flight on Thursday, March 14.

Launch took place at 09:25 local time (at 16:25 Moscow time) from the spaceport in Texas.

Starship, which is subsequently planned to be used for flights to the Moon, made a near-Earth flight and splashed down in the Indian Ocean 65 minutes later.

However, the SpaceX team reported that they lost contact with the ship when it was returning to Earth. This means that a controlled splashdown did not occur: the ship burned out before colliding with the water surface.

The previous two tests of the ship – in April and in November last year – ended in explosions a few minutes following launch.

The reusable rocket system consists of the Starship spacecraft and the Super Heavy launch vehicle. The height of the device exceeds 120 meters – this is higher than any other rocket ever created in the world.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the largest client of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is largely riding on the success of Starship. pays attention Reuters.

According to plans, the rocket should make two manned flights to the Moon under the Artemis program. The first (flyby of the Earth’s satellite) is scheduled for November 2024. The Blue Moon’s flight to the Moon is scheduled for 2029.
