ZürichNo one sticks to 30 km/h here – speed camera madness every minute

A semi-mobile radar device has been in Zurich’s district 9 in a 30 zone since Tuesday. Since then, dozens of drivers have been flashed every day.

That’s what it’s about

  • A radar flashes every minute in a 30 km/h zone in Albisrieden.

  • “Since it flashes in both directions, there are umpteen buses that are issued here,” says a news scout.

A taxi pulls up, is flashed, turns around – and the radar device promptly shoots another photo: video recordings by a news scout show how speeders are flashed every minute on a street in Zurich’s district 9. In a section you can see how a car driver is caught on the 30 km/h route, two men driving behind on a motorcycle can be heard laughing loudly.

“When The Tin Policeman was reorganized, I initially thought that someone was taking pictures with a flash outdoors. It was only at second glance that I noticed who was responsible for the storm, »says the news scout. When he went out onto the balcony to take a closer look at the situation, he realized how many drivers had been caught. “Since it flashes in both directions, there are umpteen buses that are issued here.”

60 million revenue for the city

According to Judith Hödl from the Zurich city police, the speed camera has been on the street in Albisrieden since Tuesday. “The radar device was set up due to concerns from the local population.” The news scout confirms: “Various parents of school and kindergarten children were concerned because drivers pressed the gas despite 30 km/h.”

In 2021, the Zurich city police punished around 891,000 violations, which is the equivalent of over 2,440 fines per day. In total, there were 341,657 speed violations, 410,246 parking buses and 82,793 red light violations. The city took almost 60 million francs with fines in 2021.
