President Yoweri Museveni hosted a state dinner on Monday evening at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, gathering regional heads of state and international diplomats on the eve of his presidential swearing-in ceremony.
The event brought together a high-level delegation of African leaders, including South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta was also in attendance, alongside official representatives from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, as well as various envoys and senior government ministers.
President Museveni arrived at the lakeside venue shortly before 9:00 p.m., accompanied by Natasha Museveni Karugire. The dinner functioned as an informal diplomatic forum, allowing the visiting leaders to engage in discussions regarding regional integration, trade, and infrastructure development. Key agenda items included continental peace and security initiatives and shared economic strategies for Africa’s future.

The selection of the Speke Resort Munyonyo, situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, provided a backdrop for the evening’s diplomatic activity. The event was designed to showcase Ugandan hospitality through a curated menu that blended traditional local dishes—including fresh fish sourced from Lake Victoria—with continental and international cuisine.
While the atmosphere was characterized by diplomatic camaraderie, security remained a priority. Multiple security agencies coordinated the logistics and protection for the visiting dignitaries to ensure a seamless transition from the resort to the official state functions scheduled for the following day.
Transition to Kololo Independence Grounds
The state dinner served as the final diplomatic engagement before the formal swearing-in ceremony at the Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday. The ceremony marks the official commencement of President Museveni’s new term.
The administration has designated the theme for the swearing-in as “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.” This theme outlines the government’s stated economic objective of transitioning Uganda’s economic classification through targeted development and stability.
The proceedings at Kololo will include the formal administration of the oath of office and the announcement of the government’s priorities for the upcoming term.
