SPÖ: Goodbye to neutrality? | SN.at

The now duly elected new SPÖ chairman announces program points for his future policy, which is necessary and sensible. However, he should note that he is walking on political ice on some issues. One such issue is our neutrality, to which Austria committed itself many years ago for good reasons.
Former Federal President and constitutional expert Heinz Fischer says: “Neutrality is a concept of international law and not of sympathy or opportunism”.
It is therefore irresponsible that weapons should be delivered to a war zone, that tank deliveries through our national territory are tacitly tolerated by the government and that Austrian soldiers without a UN mandate should carry out tasks such as mine clearance in a war zone. Constitutional laws are to be strictly observed unless amended or abolished. This also raises the question of how our supreme judges, who sit in the Constitutional Court, judge the current interpretation of this law?
