Spotify Premium Price Increase: What You Need to Know about the Latest Subscription Changes

2023-07-24 18:19:00

Spotify subscribers will have it for their wallet. In a communiqué published on Monday, the music streaming platform announces the increase in the prices of its Premium subscription in 52 countries. You will now have to pay 10.99 euros per month (against 9.99 euros per month previously) to listen to your music on demand, without and offline.

With this unprecedented measure since the Premium subscription was billed at 9.99 euros since the start of the company in France, Spotify aligns itself with its main competitors, such as Deezer or Apple Music, which also went above 10 euros last year.

All formulas

This price increase had already been mentioned in 2022 by the Swedish giant, which has more than 200 million paying subscribers worldwide. “These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists,” the company said in a statement. The year 2022 had been complicated for the platform, which had recorded a net loss of 430 million euros.

Spotify is increasing all of its formulas. Thus, the “Duo” subscription, offering two “Premium” accounts a common offer (provided they live under the same roof), rises to 14.99 euros instead of 12.99 euros. The “Family” formula, for four accounts living under the same roof, goes from 15.99 euros to 17.99 euros. Students are not spared by this increase, since their package goes up to 5.99 euros instead of 4.99 euros.

Podcasts, audiobooks, artificial intelligence… Since the beginning of the year, Spotify has increased its investments to improve the user experience. Some subscribers regret that the announcement of this price increase is not accompanied by the addition of new features included in the subscription.
