At the beginning of the year, the Embracer Group bought the developer of Square Enix Montreal. As a result, the studio is now called Studio Onoma and already has a new brand identity defined.

The team that created Lara Croft Go and Hitman Sniper was bought last May by the Embracer Group (the purchase was finalized in August), along with two other teams, Crystal Dynamics y Eidos Montréal. Embracer also bought the licenses for Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain and more classic games. Now Square Enix Montréal is called Onoma, which means “name” in Greek.

In a post on his Onoma explains that “Onoma is ‘name’ in Greek and names offer endless possibilities.”, meaning that users “They can be whoever they want, get anything and go anywhere”.

To choose Onoma they had to decide between 165 different options; however, Onoma was easy to pronounce in both English and French. “At Onoma, we are creators, inventors, and storytellers, and the experiences and ideas we bring to life connect us with each other and with players.”, they continue in the post.

This is not the only change under the new Embracer organization. After the purchase of the three studios for US$300 millionas he is also planning a series of “secuelas, remakes, remasters y spin-offs” of all the games they have purchased, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Thief.

One of the sagas that fans are hoping will make a comeback is Legacy of Kain. For now, it is known that in early October Crystal Dynamics was asking users if they wanted a new release.
