Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya reacted to the burning of the house of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Renil Wickremesinghe who announced his resignation. Despite political differences with the Prime Minister, Sanath Jayasuriya tweeted that the protestors’ action was wrong.

“We must understand that some are trying to destroy this historic moment. Politically, there is a difference of opinion with the Prime Minister. However, it was wrong to set his house on fire. Must be restrained’, his tweet said. Sanath Jayasuriya’s response was to retweet the footage of protesters setting Renil Wickramasinghe’s house on fire. Cricketers including Sanath Jayasuriya had already come out in support of the protesters. Apart from Jayasuriya, Roshan Mahanama, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena have declared their support.
