SsangYong Rexton 2021
In the class of soft-washed family SUVs, the SsangYong Rexton is a real work guy. It can even go into tough terrain with it and the Rexton pulls heavy trailers off the paddock with passion. With the facelift, the Korean gets a real technological boost and more performance.
It’s a shame that many people don’t have the 4.85 meter long SsangYong Rexton on their radar when it comes to a large off-road vehicle. Because optically and technically the Rexton didn’t have to hide. With the facelift, it has become even more distinctive and, in particular, a little more competitive. With the new front with a diamond-shaped radiator grille and LED headlights, it looks more modern and powerful. It looks no different at the rear with the LED taillights, connected by a chic chrome clasp.
For the obligatory 2.2 liter common rail diesel there was a slight increase in performance to 149 kW / 202 PS / 440 Nm. That is 21 HP and 20 Nm more than before, with the maximum torque between 1,600 and 2,600 rpm. The standard consumption: 7.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers. The engine power is now transferred to both drive axles via a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Since the gear selection is electronically controlled, the driver only needs to switch off the Rexton’s engine and the transmission automatically goes into parking mode. The electric power steering is also new in this context. Unchanged on board: the all-wheel drive with limited slip differential for safe traction off the beaten track and thus the possibility of hooking trailers up to 3.0 tonnes. The optional trailer assistant prevents the trailer from swinging.
The driver assistance systems were also improved. The Rexton offers, among other things, adaptive cruise control as well as blind spot alarm, lane departure warning, exit and cross traffic warning with integrated emergency braking function. In the event of an accident, the Korean offers nine airbags and increased body rigidity, which should ensure safety. In the interior there is the familiar generous amount of space, higher quality materials and a newly designed center console with a cup holder that can be covered. The digital instrument display has grown to 12.3 inches and provides all important information in an animated manner – from infotainment and navigation instructions to the around-view monitor. Four cameras distributed around the vehicle enable a three-dimensional 360-degree all-round view of the Rexton. The SsangYong Rexton can still score particularly well with its generous space. There are more comfortable seats in the rear, the higher backrests of which can be adjusted to a tilt angle of up to 139 degrees. The trunk, with a volume of 784 liters, can be expanded to 1,977 liters by folding down the rear seats. The market launch is next March.
