The fire broke out in the attic of the property at 6:45 p.m. for reasons still unknown and then engulfed the entire attic. “The emergency services had to tear open part of the roof,” says Markus Rutz, media spokesman for the St. Gallen cantonal police.

A 61-year-old resident of the house suffered various injuries – “among other things, he caught smoke,” says Rutz. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance; the severity of his injuries was initially unknown.

According to the police spokesman, the house is no longer habitable and the damage amounts to several hundred thousand francs. Around 100 people from the fire department, police and rescue teams were on duty. The large fire was under control later on Friday evening, but had not yet been completely extinguished. (two)
