Stallikon Village Center Project: Voters Approve CHF 1.9M Funding

Stallikon, Switzerland – Voters in the municipality of Stallikon overwhelmingly approved a CHF 1.9 million commitment towards the first phase of the Dorfzentrum (village center) project on Sunday, with 76.49% voting in favor and nearly 60% of eligible voters participating in the referendum.

The approval paves the way for the redevelopment of the area surrounding the community center, encompassing plans for both senior and family housing, as well as a comprehensive redesign of the village square. According to the municipality, the project aims to create a vibrant hub for the community and enhance Stallikon’s appeal as a residential location.

The Genossenschaft Hofgarten (Hofgarten Cooperative) from Zurich will develop a portion of the land, located behind the former schoolhouse and municipal administration building, under a building right agreement. The cooperative is slated to construct 36 assisted living apartments on the site. Stallikon will receive a base land price of CHF 1.5 million, along with ongoing ground lease payments, providing a reliable revenue stream for the municipality.

Plans also include the construction of 39 family apartments on land adjacent to Dorfstrasse. Alongside the modern housing, a key component of the project is the revitalization of the village square, envisioned as a lively gathering place with attractive amenities.

“We are delighted that we can continue to develop the Dorfzentrum Stallikon with broad support from the population,” said Stallikon’s President of the Communal Council, Reto Bernhard, following the announcement of the results. “We look forward to the further steps that are now coming. The overall design of the village square will bring a tremendous advancement for the village and the municipality of Stallikon.”

The project began in April 2020, with the municipality, supported by Wohnbaugenossenschaften Zürich (wbg zürich), conducting an evaluation process to identify a suitable non-profit developer. The Genossenschaft Hofgarten was ultimately selected from among several applicants, adding to its existing portfolio of settlements including “Hofgarten,” “Sihlgarten,” and “Stadtgarten” with the new “Landgarten” project.

The municipality owns approximately 5,400 square meters of land in the village center and intends to sell or lease the land to a non-profit developer to realize intergenerational, affordable housing and senior residences. According to an initial estimate by wbg zürich, the area could accommodate around 55 apartments, with at least 15 designated for senior housing, as required by zoning regulations.

An information event held on February 4, 2026, featured a presentation by the Genossenschaft Hofgarten, detailing the project plans to residents. The project’s progress was also discussed at an event on November 1, 2024, where architect Camiel Van Noten presented architectural models.
