Stamping Out Smurf Accounts: The Fight Against Cheating in Dota

2023-09-01 17:25:00

Today we have permanently banned 90,000 smurf accounts that have been active in the past few months. (These are additional accounts that the user does not feel sorry for. Usually they are created for breaking the rules, for example, for playing not on your rating, using cheats, leaving games, and so on.)

In addition, we traced the real owners of all smurf accounts. Now such violations can lead to various penalties for the main account: from a temporary change in decency to an indefinite ban.

It is most interesting to play Dota on equal terms. We said that a few months ago in a post about cheaters, we said that this week in a post about the summer update, and we will continue to say so. The quality of each individual game depends on the integrity of its participants. We strive to ensure that games run as well as possible, while smurfing leads to the opposite result.

If you suspect that a “smurf” is playing with you, you can still file an in-game complaint against him. This will help us to further identify violators and collect more data so that our tools to combat smurf accounts work more accurately.
