The works of the third edition of the African Conference for the promotion of peace in the African Continent started Tuesday, in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott.

This international conference brings together Mauritanian Presidents Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani and Nigerian President Mohamed Boukhari, Ministers of Religious Affairs and heads of Fatwa Councils in African countries, as well as presidents of federations, international organizations and trade unions. African women, according to Anadolu’s correspondent.

It represents, in fact, one of the initiatives of the “Forum for the Promotion of Peace in Muslim Societies”, held under the aegis of the President of the Emirates Council for Fatwa, Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah. Nouakchott hosted its first edition in January 2020 and the second in February 2022.

Over three days, conference participants will discuss topics such as “the geography of crises on the African Continent”, “the national state and the promotion of peace” and “dialogue and reconciliation in the countries of the Continent, “according to the organizers of the conference.

The conference will also include workshops on the role of educational institutions in promoting peace in Africa and on issues of irregular migration.

In his inaugural address, President Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani said the following: “The defense of peace, security and stability can only be effective by immunizing minds against discourses that glorify violence under all its forms”.

And to call for the establishment of the culture of the priority of peace and security in general, because it is a prerequisite for development and prosperity. This requires tireless work to consolidate the values ​​of justice and fraternity, he said.

For his part, Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah stressed that what the African continent needs today and above all is to stop wars.

“Humanity is, nowadays, facing major challenges and crises, including violence and wars,” he noted, explaining that the conference will discuss the path to peace and awareness through the publication of legal texts and initiatives aimed at solving problems that threaten peace.
