Start of construction for a new cycle path ramp on the Linz West Bridge

The state of Upper Austria and the city of Linz are spending around 350,000 euros for the combined walking and cycling path over the West Bridge. The ramp will lead the path over the bridge and then into the Waldeggstrasse cycle path.

The state and city traffic officers, State Councilor Günther Steinkellner (FP) and Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP) call this a “big piece of the mosaic” to improve the situation for cyclists. This means that continuous safe use will be possible until the planned new construction of the west bridge as part of the west ring work (probably 2034/35). As is well known, the existing stairs for pedestrians will remain in place.

Increase bicycle share to 18 percent

Steinkellner expects the ramp, as well as other “numerous infrastructure initiatives,” to relieve pressure on the heavily frequented entry routes into the state capital.

Hajart sees the start of construction on the Linz cycle path as “one step closer” to the goal of making Linz a cycling city. As already reported, the Linz traffic officer would like to increase the proportion of bicycles from the current eleven to 18 percent. This goal should be achieved in 2032.
