The Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí will teach from the month of March the specialty in Epidemiology, a new clinical postgraduate course of the Faculty that adds to the 23 already existing, and which are carried out in ten clinical campuses, that is to say , ten units receiving medical residents.
This was announced by Dr. Ismael Francisco Herrera Benavente, director of the Faculty of Medicine, who indicated that this Specialty in Epidemiology was born as a result of the request of the IMSS delegate, Dr. Guadalupe Garrido, as well as by Dr. Efraín Luna, who requested to be able to carry out and develop this new specialty.
He also stressed that this specialty was necessary, since it is precisely epidemiology that studies disease-health processes, “they are what give us the indicators in what is health-disease, that is, how much obesity there is, among other things . Definitely, epidemiologists are needed in the country to be able to develop more reliable platforms and not give data that is not true.”
Dr. Herrera Benavente explained that this new specialty will begin activities next March of this year. “The call will be made by the IMSS itself, as well as the operative, functional, part of teachers, it is totally on their part; we are giving the academic endorsement of this specialty that lasts two years”.
