It is a summer boost to a mode of transport presented as more ecological and more economical: state aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle will be raised on Monday, with additional amounts for people in a situation disabled or low-income, depending on decree published on Saturday at Official newspaper.
The maximum bonus for the purchase of an electric bicycle, reserved for people whose tax income per unit is less than 13,489 euros, will increase from 200 to 300 euros. From now on, it will no longer be conditional on the payment of aid from a local authority.
Another novelty: the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion specifies in a press release that “people with disabilities, regardless of their income level, are now eligible for the bonus, which until now was granted only on a means test”.
For these people as well as for those whose reference tax income per share is less than or equal to 6,300 euros, the aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle can go up to 400 euros. This public will also be entitled to higher aid to buy a cargo bike, a folding bike or an electric bike trailer: the maximum bonus that can be granted to them will increase to 2,000 euros, compared to 1,000 euros for the other beneficiaries of the assistance.
For other more traditional types of bicycles, people with disabilities will be able to benefit from aid equivalent to 40% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of 150 euros.
Bonuses, conversion bonuses and cumulative local aid
Finally, for people with disabilities or low incomes who wish to get rid of a polluting vehicle to buy an electric bicycle, the maximum amount of the conversion bonus is increased to 3,000 euros, compared to 1,500 euros for other aid recipients.
These aids, which can be combined with each other and with any local aid, will remain in force from August 15 to December 31, 2022, specifies the ministry. To encourage the abandonment of a polluting vehicle in favor of the purchase of a bicycle, the conversion bonus will also be accessible to several members of the same tax household from 1is January 2023.
