Stay Active During the Holidays: Tips to Keep Your Fitness Routine on Track

2023-12-19 16:28:41

The most important thing you should know is that, like any routine, if you abandon physical exercise – even for a few weeks – it will be more difficult to resume it when you return to regular exercise.

If training stops completely, in January there will be more demotivation, laziness and, furthermore, frustration, because what was worked hard the previous year will seem like wasted time and effort.

The traditional festive meal, absent in other months of the year, as well as celebratory meetings and work breaks, are added to promote a break in physical exercise. But, instead of thinking it’s best to stop, it’s best to keep going! There are 12 weeks left until the CAF Marathon and we are in the final stretch, so we leave you several options to complement your regular training without interrupting your Christmas plans and including your loved ones:

Take advantage of work holidays to train as a family

Children have school holidays and most adults will have a few days of enjoyment. So, why not join together as a family to do activities that serve as recreation and physical strengthening at the same time?

Going to the park, going on foot to visit family or friends who live nearby or taking advantage of trips to visit historical or tourist places is an excellent complement to the daily routine that you have been implementing for a few weeks.

Small actions, big benefits

Taking advantage of the cool December weather to climb the mountain, practice a beach sport on a sunny day and even go shopping on foot (without shortcuts) is beneficial not only to maintain commitment to the CAF Marathon, but to strengthen interpersonal relationships.

Don’t forget your digestive system

It is no longer the physical exercise tips, which we already have, now it is the problem of festive eating. If at this point you’re wondering how you’re going to resist the incredible Christmas dishes, the good news is that you shouldn’t.

We cannot resist the customs of this time but it is very important to avoid excesses so that you stay fit and optimistic.

Yoga, the faithful friend

Let’s not forget that mental health is also worked on and yoga can help us unite the mind and body. Exercises like these, less intense than the ones you probably do all year round, are very effective because they work muscle groups similar to those of high intensity, in addition to helping with concentration.

Important facts you should know

  • 2 out of 3 women and 3 out of 4 men do some type of physical activity in the world, according to the WHO.
  • In addition to the increase in self-esteem that comes from having a good physical appearance, feeling productive in your daily life, with energy and encouragement will generate satisfaction and security, which impacts personal and work relationships.
  • Exercise routines produce endorphins, which improve mood, concentration, memory and sleep, as well as help control stress, anxiety and depression. In addition, mortality from any cause is reduced and falls are prevented.

Do you still have doubts? Challenge yourself!

And get ready, we’ll see you on March 17. Without excuses.
