Valve has just announced a new version of the Steam Deck, its portable console launched in February 2022. The new version is called Steam Deck OLED and features a new OLED screen with improved contrast, longer battery life and other changes that promise elevate gameplay.

Starting as if it were an unboxing, the new Steam Deck OLED has a carrying case with a soft inner lining, which allows you to take it anywhere, whether in a spacious suitcase or a small backpack.

Jumping now to the screen, the Steam Deck OLED features a 7.4-inch OLED display (1280 x 800 pixels) with 90Hz, brightness of up to 1,000 cd/m² and 180Hz touch detection.

The APU (Zen 2) of the Steam Deck OLED is 6nm with 16 GB of 6,400 MT/s LPDDR5 RAM to increase energy efficiency by up to 50% with the new 50Wh battery instead of 40Wh that charges 80% in 45 minutes and brings an RGB LED indicator. The charger wire has increased from 1.5m to 2.5m.

Valve also points out that the console is thicker, but thanks to this it heats up less and has a better sound system with more powerful bass. Despite this, the Steam Deck OLED is 30 grams lighter than the original.

Speaking of connections, the Steam Deck OLED now supports WiFi 6E networks, Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX HD and aptX Low Latency codecs, a new antenna on the top to ensure better connectivity and it is now possible to turn on the Steam Deck with a Bluetooth control.

The USB-C port continues here allowing you to connect the Steam Deck to an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, and more.

The design of the Steam Deck OLED remains similar to the original, but Valve claims that it has improved the resistance of all components to disassembly, dust and daily use. The rear is now held in place by Torx-type screws with metal threads, while other components are easier to access.

Finally, Steam Deck storage can now vary from 512 GB to 1 TB depending on the version chosen, but all are on high-speed NVMe SSDs. All models now have a microSD card slot.
