steps to check validity online

Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat) It is the policy that every driver of a car, motorcycle or any motor vehicle in Colombia must have. This insurance covers the driver, occupants, passengers and pedestrians involved in a traffic accident.

Not having it means a fine of 30 current legal daily minimum wages, the immobilization of the vehicle by land traffic agents, in addition to towing and parking expenses and the responsibility to pay for the medical attention of the victims in the event of an accident.

How to know the validity of the Hour

Once the Soat certificate is acquired, the validity is for one year for all national vehicles. However, there are only two exceptions so that the insurance does not last that long.

The first is for old and classic vehicles, which is valid quarterly. And the second exception is one month for those imported cars transferred from the port to the dealer for sale to the public and those that transit through border areas.

Having this current insurance is essential, therefore there is an easy and fast way to check its status.

  • Go to the website of the Single National Transit Registry (Runt).
  • Fill in the details of your vehicle and those of the owner, and click on ‘consult information’.
  • Select the ‘Soat Policy’ dropdown option and click. In this item you will be able to see the history of your insurance, in which information will appear such as: policy number, date of issue, date of beginning of validity, date of end of validity, type of rate applied, entity with which you acquired the insurance and the state of the Soat, that is, if it is valid or not.
