For several years, the platform AIDS Prevention sounds the alarm in Belgium. Indeed, cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis are only increasing due to several factors, such as current meeting methods, the post-COVID effect which made young people want to “make up for lost time”, less knowledge of information relating to STIs and above all, the drop in use of condoms.
We can never tell you this enough, but the condom, whether external or internal, is the only protection against these STIs ! But in addition to the importance of using a condom during sexual intercourse, we will also focus on a screening. Most STIs are asymptomatic in their early stages, so many people could be infected without knowing it… It is therefore important, especially for people with multiple sexual partners, to get tested regularly. Additionally, early treatment significantly reduces the viral or bacterial load in infected people.
So, for all these reasons, never forget that the use of condoms and STI screening are part of a process of responsibility and respect for oneself and partnerss. ❤️
