But do you know a man who was unable to sit for nearly 25 years? He is Robert Kinghorn. Kinghorn was diagnosed with an illness when he was 28 years old. The disease causes the muscles to lose their mobility and become stiff bones. This disease is known as Stoneman’s syndrome. Robert is a native of Bellingham, Northumberland, UK
Doctors confirmed this disease in 1980. They presented Robert with two options. Either sit or stand. The disease is progressing. It has to continue somehow. Robert decided to stay. Then all of Robert’s muscles went as hard as bone. Robert used a platform to move from one room to another. Robert was sleeping on the bed with the bed turned up.
Another sufferer of Stoneman’s disease was Henry Eastlack from America. He died at the age of forty. After his death, Eastlake donated his body to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia to study the disease.
