Storm legend: Ivica Osim has died

Great sadness in Austrian football: Ivica Osim died on May 1, 2022 at the age of 80. Osim was SK Sturm Graz coach from 1994 to 2002 and celebrated the greatest successes in his history with the club: in 1998 and 1999 he became champion with Graz and celebrated great successes in the Champions League, including entering the second group phase in the 2000/01 season. In 1996, 1997 and 1999 Osim won the cup with Sturm.

Previously, Osim also coached the Yugoslav national team, with which he reached the quarter-finals of the 1990 World Cup. On May 6, Osim would have been 81 years old.

“His Words Will Resonate With Us Forever”

Just on the founding day of SK Sturm, its greatest coach passed away. The traditional annual celebration, which was celebrated today as part of a hike up the Schöckl, was canceled by SK Sturm. “Ivica Osim was not only a great coach, but also one of the greatest people I have had the privilege of meeting. He was our club’s biggest icon and I will never forget the many hours we spent together. He had an impact far beyond football and his words will resonate with us forever. The Storm family is losing one of the most important people who have ever stayed in our midst,” says Storm President Christian Jauk, who expresses his deepest sympathy to Osim’s family, especially his wife and two sons.

“Schwabe”, “Strauß”, coach icon and legend – the portrait of Ivica Osim, which was published on his 80th birthday.
