With the Streaming Tips, we as FWD editors look at the new offerings, mainly from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. If services such as Apple TV and Videoland also have something cool that week, we will also report that. Many tips are based on preference, but we also pay attention to things such as popularity or a certain niche. Oppenheimer (SkyShowTime)
Oppenheimer’s brilliant story about the birth of the nuclear bomb is now on SkyShowtime. The streaming service will be delighted, because the film is not only much-discussed, but also critically acclaimed, including recently with a shower of Oscars. A wonderful role for Cillian Murphy, but above all a story that cuts through to the bone. Should this ever have happened? This film is the embodiment of that question.
Make Up Your Mind (Videoland)
RTL’s popular drag television show, Make Up Your Mind, is back. In the series we see how well-known and less well-known Dutch people equip themselves in drag. So good that they are virtually unrecognizable. The idea is that the panel considers who they are dealing with and that sometimes turns out to be quite a task. A show with a capital S, and above all a lot of beauties from the Dutch drag scene.
Motherless Brooklyn (HBO Max)
It is a film that, in our opinion, does not get enough credit: Motherless Brooklyn tells the story about a private detective who has Tourette’s and tries to solve a murder. Edward Norton plays this role wonderfully, in a film he directed himself. We see all kinds of people in power in New York, typical pictures of Brooklyn and a man on a mission in this compelling crime film.
The Equalizer 3 (Netflix)
The Equalizer 3 is a great film because it dares to take risks. The fact that a large part of the film is about a recovering Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) holed up in a beautiful southern Italian village is ballsy on Antoine Fuqua’s part. Yet it works. The threat in the film, the slightly exaggerated mafiosi he has to deal with: it is an interesting film to watch, even if you only watch it for the visual beauty that passes by.
3 Body Problem (Netflix)
The fantastic book-based series 3 Body Problem is finally on Netflix after much teasing. It’s pure sci-fi, it’s full of twists and opens your brain to get to know a new universe, and perhaps a new reality. The versatile cast and content remind us of Sense8, but with more quality. Not everyone will like 3 Body Problem, but fans of this genre will certainly enjoy it. In any case, it is a beautiful production.
