We all have that experience at one time or another. After a long hard day, you just want to play your favorite game, but when you’re sitting in front of your computer trying to access it, you need to install a patch!
Why isn’t the game ready right when you want to play it? We’ve now added the ability to automatically patch your game while you’re away, so you don’t have to wait while staring at the update progress bar.
If the Riot Client is running, background patching will allow you to download and install patches for any game in the Riot Client. Enabling background patching will keep your game up-to-date so you can play the game instantly anytime! In the future, we plan to release a feature that automatically launches the Riot Client when you turn it on.
In the first version of the background patch, only VALORANT is fully updated. League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics are all partially updated within their respective clients, so we do not yet support full updates with background patches. However, part of the patching process for these games is done within the Riot client, and background patching will assist with that process. This means players can expect a faster patching process for all games.
Until then, we will try to make background patching available for League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics as soon as possible. Players who have installed the Riot Client Beta can start using this feature right away, and it will be officially introduced next month.
