Jim Ryan, boss of Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation at the same time, will officially leave his position in March 2024.
This week, LaPetitePelle looks back on the departure of Jim Ryan, the emblematic boss of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the branch which takes care of video games at Sony and therefore PlayStation. Jim Ryan, who has been with the company since 1994, has decided to leave the company as he announced in a press release. He explains that his work had become difficult between his professional life in the United States and his personal life in Europe.
After 30 years, I have made the decision to retire from SIE in March 2024. I have enjoyed being able to do a job I love in a very special company, working with great people and exceptional partners. But it is increasingly difficult for me to combine my life in Europe and my work in North America. I will leave having had the privilege of working on products that have touched millions of people around the world.
After this sudden announcement, Sony had to choose a new person to place at the head of SIE. The chosen man is Hiroki Totoki, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Group Corporation. Despite this appointment, the future president of SIE is only there temporarily. Indeed, the brand’s senior dignitaries are working in close collaboration with Totoki to find the new video game headliner at Sony. He also thanked Jim Ryan for his work within the brand.
I would like to express my deep gratitude to Jim Ryan for his exceptional achievements and contributions during his 30-year career at Sony, notably for the great success of the launch of the PlayStation 5. Sony owes a lot to Jim Ryan for the success of the PlayStation 5. We must not forget that the console remains one of the Japanese giant’s best successes, as evidenced by the excellent sales figures.
