Street Fighter V Definitive Update Arrives March 29

Street Fighter V is getting an update on March 29, which developer Capcom is calling the “definitive update” for the long-running fighting game. Once it arrives, players can expect new combat balance tweaks, cel-shaded and pixel filters, more character tracksuit colors, and in-game remixes of multiple tracks.

This isn’t the first time Capcom has gone under the hood of Street Fighter V for a technical overhaul, as post-release patches were followed by Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in 2017 and Street Fighter: Champion Edition in 2020. filters, they provide interesting new graphical options for the game.

The cel-shaded mode fits well with the current art direction – something Street Fighter Alpha fans will likely appreciate, while the pixel filter reduces color vibrancy and roughs up the edges of the character model so they look like they’re straight out of an early 1990s arcade machine. Both filters are only available in offline mode though, so don’t expect to throw a retro multiplayer party with them unless you do couch co-op.

Street Fighter V will take a back seat once the next chapter in the series, Street Fighter 6, debuts. While still in its infancy, Capcom officially confirmed the game was in development and released a teaser trailer in February. Very little was shown, but the video revealed that series mainstay Ryu had finally saved up enough money to buy a pair of sandals.

Street Fighter V has performed well since its release in 2016, having sold over 6 million copies and has presumably made plenty of sales with its robust DLC packages over the years.

Capcom also announced the Capcom Fighting Collection last month, which includes 10 classic fighting games and will launch June 24 on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.
