Aside from the dominant presence of radio in cars, radio overall demonstrates resilience and considerable reach in this year’s study. Eighty per cent of Australians have been reached by AM/FM/DAB+ radio in the past week, both live and on-demand. Listening to radio online, through a station’s app, increased by 6 percentage points year-over-year, as 50% of online radio listeners now use the app compared to 44 % in 2021.
Other key findings include that weekly podcast listeners subscribe to an average of 8 podcasts and listen to an average of 7 podcast episodes per week. Listeners spend an average of 7 hours and 6 minutes per week listening to podcasts, compared to 5 hours in 2021. In addition, Australians have an average of 2.0 connected speakers. Finally, listeners spend more than 13 hours per week listening to audio online
