Kuwait made debut in Asian and Oceanic U18 Ice Hockey Championship.

They didn’t exactly have any rookie luck in the premiere.

Thailand won 57-0.

Yesterday, Kuwait’s U18 team went out for their first ever ice hockey championship game. This in the Asian and Oceanic Championships in Uzbekistan, with reigning bronze medalist Thailand (coached by Swedish Ken Kindborn) as opposition.

Kuwait goalkeeper Faisal Allenqawi must have made 65 saves. But it was still a one-sided story.

Thailand won 57-0 (17-0, 28-0, 12-0). A pretty fair result even when you look at the shot statistics, which finished 122-1 in Thai’s favour. Natapat Patong was the top scorer, with seven goals and six assists on the personal account.

92-0 is the record

In any case, Kuwait can take solace in the fact that there were also other teams that lost their opening matches by more or less large margins. Like Iran (0-19 once morest host Uzbekistan) and India (0-32 once morest Mongolia).

Kuwait can also take solace in the fact that there are bigger losses in national team hockey history, although 0-57 ranks high on the list of the greatest.

In the same U18 championship in 1998, Thailand just lost once morest South Korea with a whopping 0-92. To this day, the largest margin of victory in an ice hockey international match ever.
