ALGIERS – Minister of Fisheries and Fisheries Production, Ahmed Badani, received Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters, the Turkish Ambassador to Algiers, Mujahid Kucuk Yilmaz, with whom he examined the prospects for strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries, indicates a press release from the ministry.

The meeting, which took place in the presence of ministry executives, allowed both parties to examine the “prospects of strengthening cooperation and partnership in the field of fishing and aquaculture”, adds the same source. .

On this occasion, the minister affirmed “the availability of the sector to support and accompany Turkish companies interested in investment in Algeria in the field of fishing and aquaculture and to provide them with the necessary facilities”, saying convinced of the “effective” contribution that could be made by Turkish companies in the construction and maintenance of ships in Algeria, as well as in the field of bluefin tuna fattening.

Mr. Badani also invited Turkish investors and businessmen to participate in the International Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition, scheduled in Oran from February 8 to 11, 2024, and which should constitute an opportunity to discuss the opportunities of partnership with their Algerian counterparts, specifies the same source.

For his part, the Turkish ambassador expressed his availability to work for the strengthening and development of bilateral cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture, by exploring cooperation projects with the Turkish Cooperation Agency and coordination (TIKA).

He also said he was ready to urge and guide Turkish operators and businessmen to invest in the areas of the naval industry, the fattening of bluefin tuna and the processing industry of fishery products in Algeria, given their great economic profitability, adds the press release.

The Turkish diplomat added that the Algerian-Turkish businessmen’s forum to be held at the end of November will constitute an opportunity to discuss issues related to investment in the field of fishing and aquaculture.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to form a joint working group to ensure the monitoring and application of the clauses of the framework agreement signed between the two countries in the field of fishing and aquaculture , define priorities and evaluate the rate of progress of projects, ensuring follow-up of consultation with a view to achieving, in the future, the signing of an agreement between the Algerian Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CAPA) and its Turkish counterpart, concludes the press release.
