Strengthening Cooperation between UN and League of Arab States for Peace and Stability - UAE's Presidency Event

Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, chaired the first major event held by the UAE during its presidency of the UN Security Council throughout the month of June, which dealt with strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the League of Arab States, in order to achieve peace, security and stability in the Arab region.
His Excellency Al Marar said: “This event comes to build on the presidential statement adopted by the UN Security Council during the UAE’s first presidency of the Council in March 2022, as we aspire today to intensify efforts between the two organizations and consolidate relations between them, with the aim of overcoming conflicts and divisions, and looking together for a future era of stability and prosperity.”
His Excellency added: “We hope that the United Nations and the Security Council will continue to support Arab initiatives and endeavors towards establishing a coherent and balanced regional system that would achieve Arab aspirations in a comprehensive renaissance, opening the doors to practical and realistic solutions to long-standing conflicts.”
His Excellency Al-Marar raised several topics, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two organizations, especially in the field of combating terrorism, preventing conflicts by promoting the values of tolerance and human brotherhood, supporting efforts to empower and protect women and girls, climate change, and other issues that concern the entire Arab region.
His Excellency Al-Marar stressed that the UAE will continue to play an active role, whether during its membership in the UN Security Council or afterwards, to support the work of the Council in reaching decisions that contribute to resolving Arab and international issues. His Excellency also referred to the positive results achieved by the League of Arab States and the United Nations in the years The latter being a living example of the progress that can be achieved through joint cooperation.
Out of its commitment to multilingualism, the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations provided sign language interpretation during the main event, as part of its pledges to support access to information during its presidency of the UN Security Council. It also published on its website the Council’s agenda in both Arabic and English.
