Still several days without publication of the Senegalese national daily The sun. This newspaper, considered pro-government, has not appeared since Friday, August 5. Its striking journalists are at odds with general manager Yakham Mbaye, who is very close to the presidential couple. They accuse him of a “clan” management of the national daily.

No newspaper publication The sun until next Wednesday August 10, at least. This was decided by a general assembly of the workers of the Senegalese daily, in disagreement with the general management for several months already. ” With the intervention of the country’s authorities, and even regular readers of the national daily, we decided to release the Soleil Wednesday, explains Ndiol Makka Seck, the president of the College of union delegates of the Sun. We would have liked it to come out on Monday, but for obvious technical reasons, we couldn’t. »

The management of the newspaper by the general manager Yakham Mbaye at the head of this publication since October 2017, and close to President Macky Sall, is decried by some of the staff who denounce a management ” clan and mismanagement. ” Here is a general manager who, as soon as he arrived, dismissed almost all the executives, both in the editorial and in the administration, continues Ndiol Makka Seck. Mr. Mbaye also has a management problem, because he considers the Sun as his dairy cow. For all these reasons, the staff decided to stand up against him. »

Last Thursday, during a general assembly at the newspaper’s headquarters, a dozen journalists were arrested on the orders of the general manager Yakham Mbaye, according to the strikers who were finally released the same day. Our attempts to reach Yakham Mbaye were unsuccessful.
