Strike renewed in refineries

AA / Paris / Ümit Dönmez

The strike movement which affects several refineries and French depots, was renewed at TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil, this Saturday, at the call of the CGT union, which specified that three of the six French refineries are still at a standstill.

According to the union, it is the largest refinery of TotalEnergies, in Normandy, as well as the two refineries of Esso-ExxonMobil.

By way of an open letter addressed this Saturday to the CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, the CGT recalls that “since June, our union has constantly challenged the General Management on the issue of wages, whose revaluation in January will ultimately have been insufficient in view of the actual levels of inflation”, while the shareholders received an envelope of 2.6 billion euros, in respect of the profits made by the energy company.

Making a mobilization of employees “at the exceptional height of the stakes”, the union argues that the “situation of shortage in the country” is a “consequence of the impossibility of discussing additional salary measures with management” and that it “threatens to slow down the country’s economy”.

The union also recalls that the government invites the parties “to negotiations, and salary increases”.

The CGT then expresses its desire to “get out of the deadlock” and reiterates its call for negotiations on Monday, on the “sole basis of our wage demands”.

– 1 station out of 5 out of supply

For its part, the government indicated, this Saturday, that at 1 p.m., 20.7% of service stations are experiencing difficulties on at least one type of fuel, against 19% the previous evening.

Among the regions most affected by these supply disruptions were Île-de-France and Hauts-de-France, where 4 out of 10 stations reported difficulties with at least one fuel.

The Minister for Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher deplored that “the strike movement persists in refineries and oil depots. end, have made it possible to stabilize the situation at the national level”, she said, before reporting on “79% of the stations which operate normally”.

The Minister also underlined that “the Government is doing everything possible to restore a normal situation as quickly as possible”.

“But a solution must be found to this social conflict without delay,” she insisted, calling for a rapid settlement of the social conflict.

“I also call on everyone to be responsible and to stock up as usual, without trying to stock up,” the minister asked.
