Student’s death after drinking juice: CBI probe after 11 years – Kerala High Court

Kochi: After 11 years, the High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the case of a student’s death after drinking juice from a bakery. Sudhindraprasad’s son and Govt. Rana Pratap Singh, who was also a 10th class student of the higher secondary school, died. The Central Government had informed the High Court that the CBI should not investigate the case.

The court ordered a CBI investigation as the child’s relatives and others had repeatedly filed complaints citing suspicious circumstances. The relevant incident took place on March 26, 2011. On the last day of the SSLC examination, Rana Pratap, who had drunk juice with his friends from a bakery in Punalur, Kollam, died around 4:30 pm. And none of the classmates who drank the juice got into trouble.

But post-mortem found traces of formic acid in Rana Pratap’s stomach. The child’s father, Sudhindra Prasad, approached the court after the police investigation failed to find out how the acid content reached the child’s body. On November 20, 2017, the court ordered an investigation led by ADGP B. Sandhya. According to the scientific report, it was concluded that it could be a case of homicide, but it could not be confirmed.

An investigation was carried out against the classmates, but no evidence was found. After the death of Sudhindra Prasad while the petition demanding a CBI investigation was being considered by the High Court, the High Court has now made another son Chhatrapati Shivaji a party in the case and ordered a CBI investigation.
