Stunning, never-before-seen photos of the sun tell us new things about the glowing star

Here are some of the most unprecedented and informative images of the Sun ever taken, thanks to NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, and the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter.

NASA sent Parker into space in August 2018, and the Solar Orbiter followed it up in February 2020.

Parker plans to make 24 passes around the Sun before its mission ends in 2025, while the Solar Orbiter will make its approach to the Sun every six months until at least 2030.

The two spacecraft were sent to investigate key questions regarding the star at the center of our solar system. What drives its 11-year magnetic cycle? What warms his aura? Where does the solar wind come from?
