Clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces have already killed at least 100 civilians. Fighting intensified Monday in Khartoum, the third day of fighting between the army and a powerful paramilitary force, led by two rival generals who are vying for power.

Sign that between Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, the boss of the army and Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, says “Hemedti, responsible for the paramilitaries, the tensions persist. While in October 2021, these two generals orchestrated together a coup against the post-Omar el Bashir transition.

The sacred union between the head of the transitional council and his deputy seems not to have survived the thorny question of the integration of the rapid support forces within the army. As well as that of the management of soldiers and weapons.

Saturday, the two clans set fire to the powders in particular in Khartoum and in the close city of Omdurman.

The point of no return appears to have been reached, with Burhan and Dagalo each demanding the other surrender and blocking the transitional relaunch deal.

The Security Council is due to meet on Monday to propose a solution to the crisis. After the Arab League and theAfrican UnionTHE UNITED STATES and the United Kingdom called on Monday for an “immediate cessation” of the violence.

But the pressure from the Gulf monarchies, considered close to the army and the paramilitaries, is crucial. “Without such pressure, we could witness a conflict similar to that of the war of the Tiger (in Ethiopia)”, underlines the American analyst, Cameron Hudson.
