An attack of sudden cardiac arrest is a sudden complete loss of heart and breathing function and loss of consciousness. This condition usually results from a disorder in the heart’s electrical system, in which the pumping activity is disrupted and the blood flow to the body is interrupted. An attack of sudden cardiac arrest differs from a heart attack in which blood flow to part of the heart muscle is stopped. However, a heart attack can sometimes lead to a disturbance in the heart’s electrical system, which in turn leads to sudden cardiac arrest, according to what was published by realsimple.

Sudden cardiac arrest can lead to death if not treated immediately. It is possible to save the patient if he is provided with prompt and appropriate medical care. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, using a defibrillator or even chest compressions, can improve the chances of survival until the arrival of emergency personnel.
