NEW ORLEANS – For the second-straight week, South Alabama alumnus Gerald Everett—a tight end for the Los Angeles Chargers—caught a touchdown pass to headline the Sun Belt alumni performances in Week 7 of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season.

Everett hauled in three passes for 26 yards, including the 18th touchdown reception of his seven-year NFL career.

Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo out of Georgia Southern nailed a 51-yard field goal as time expired to lift the club to a 16-13 win over the Buccaneers. Georgia State alumnus Wil Lutz of the Denver Broncos connected on the week’s longest field goal at 52 yards, as the Sun Belt’s kicking quartet combined to go 11-for-13 on field goal attempts and 5-for-5 on extra-point tries. Koo and Lutz were both perfect on the week.

Sam Martin of the Buffalo Bills via App State had one punt for 55 yards, while fellow App State alum Darrynton Evans—a running back for the Chicago Bears—accumulated 54 yards on 14 carries and one reception.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon out of Georgia Southern (26 yards) and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Tim Jones out of Southern Miss (17 yards) also amassed double-digit yardage on the offensive side of the ball.

James Madison alumnus Dean Marlowe led the way defensively, with a season-high 12 tackles in his third-straight start for the Los Angeles Chargers. With 11 tackles for the Washington Commanders, David Mayo out of Texas State also carded a season-best performance.

Five other Sun Belt alumni had multi-tackle performances in Week 7—Tracy Walker III (Louisiana, Detroit Lions) with a season-high seven tackles, Tre Hawkins (Old Dominion, New York Giants) with four tackles and a pass defended, Demario Davis (Arkansas State, New Orleans Saints) with four tackles, Darrell Baker Jr. (Georgia Southern, Indianapolis Colts) with three tackles and a pass defended and Percy Butler (Louisiana, Washington Commanders) with three tackles.
