The Dominican pitcher of the New York Yankees, Sunday German, threw the 24th perfect game in the history of Big leagues and retired all batters in an 11-0 win over the Athleticss de Oakland.
It was the first perfect game since the Venezuelan Felix Hernandez of the Mariners de Seattle on August 15, 2012 before the Tampa Bay Rays. There were three that season — none since then until Germán finished the first major league no-hitter this year.
After a couple of bad starts, Germán struck out nine against the Athletics, who have the worst record in the league. MLB.
The 30-year-old right-hander had never thrown a complete game. His longest outing was 8 1/3 innings against Cleveland on May 1, when he allowed two hits and one run. He hadn’t been winless in his previous six outings against Oakland.
