“Russian Potato” released something incomprehensible.
We are all used to the fact that packets of chips look bright, but neutral. Moreover, now you are most likely to present standard Lay’s packaging, because this is how great marketing works. But you can also remember more elite chips with strict minimalist branding, like Just Brutal or Bon Giorno.
If you suddenly see bright packs with anime characters, you will probably decide that this is some kind of imported junk food or another blogger’s limited edition. But no. The Russkart company has released colored snacks with the most aggressive branding on the market – and it is called by the simple phrase “Super Chips”. We couldn’t pass it up and tried all three flavors. So is anime worth it?
Super Chips with BBQ flavor
I must say that they look weirder than the other two flavors because they are colored purple. And it’s not exactly the color one associates with barbecue. Pink crab? Fine. Green wasabi? Definitely. Purple BBQ? Strange. So let’s start with them.
Honestly, this is a huge disappointment. You see, when you make a Japanese impression with acidic colors and anime packaging, the consumer begins to think that the taste of the chips will also be unusual and bright. Maybe even too much. But no. These are the most pale snacks with dye and a fairly small amount of spices. And the taste of barbecue is sort of present, but in the background. Not Super at all.
Super Chips with crab flavor
Here, on the contrary, everything is balanced. Of course, you can feel the specific structure of the chips from Russian Potatoes – they were always not dense enough compared to Lay’s or Pringles, but let’s talk about the taste. If you don’t like seafood chips, you won’t like these either. And if you like it, this is really a good option. And that’s why.
The taste of the crab is too bright to be lost against the background of salt and the natural taste of the snacks themselves. Therefore, it still breaks through and feels more or less organic. Basically, these are regular normal crab chips, but with special effects. You can’t get away from the fact that they’re pink and the tutu is anime, right? Not bad.
Super Chips with wasabi flavor
The last item on the menu is wasabi. By the way, the only flavor option that implies something Japanese. And here is the brightest flavor of all. Will it be felt? Well, actually, yes. But it’s better to build an association not with wasabi from the delivery of rolls, but with croutons with jellied meat and horseradish. If they suit you, then these chips should feel more or less pleasant.
But you need to understand that “Super Chips” are more about the visuals than the taste. We won’t make direct analogies, but this series will lose the battle with many other brands outright. It shocks with its packaging and color, but definitely not with its taste. If you’re happy with the deal, wasabi and crab are relatively decent snacks, but the BBQ let you down.
