Without any warning, the parallel market witnessed a decline in the price of the dollar, this evening, Tuesday, as it declined from the afternoon session to about 1500 Lebanese pounds.
According to a tour by “Lebanon 24” of money changers, it was found that the price of the dollar fell to 36,500 Lebanese pounds, while others bought the dollar from citizens at the price of 37,000 Lebanese pounds.
In the face of this scene, many money changers announced that they would stop exchanging the dollar until “further notice”, and they informed their customers of this, saying: “We cannot bear a loss.”
In the context, one of the legal money changers told “Lebanon 24” that “the decline happens suddenly and we do not know what is happening in the market.” He continued: “Whoever spent the dollar now has been able to make profits, and whoever waits will face a decline in the price because the decline is hitting the market.”
In turn, another money changer in the parallel market indicated that “the price will drop further as long as there is a positive political atmosphere,” and added, “We are waiting for what will happen when the banks open their doors, and then the picture will become clearer.”
