Luz Marina Contreras traveled to Lisbon in June of this year with her family. They had the dream of visiting the Chapel of Apparitions, the heart of the Sanctuary of Fatima, but that goal was not fulfilled, since as soon as she was in the country, she contracted a strange bacterium known as Streptococcus pyogenes.

The bacteria caused him a strong toxic shock syndrome, according to the medical personnel who attended the emergency, which first attacked some of his organs, causing serious failures, and then the tissues of his extremities.

So they had to amputate both of their legs first and this week, they continued with their hands.

Lina Carrascal, daughter of Luz Marina, has been sharing on social networks, especially on Instagram, how the recovery process of her mother is going, who is currently admitted to the Santa María hospital, in Lisbon, Portugal.

“A trip that changed the life of my mother and my family,” said Carrascal, while sharing a video in which Luz Marina appears, the day before her next surgery, thanking her for the support she has received for her speedy recovery.

“I want to thank the people who ask for my health. I am in the hospital of Santa María recovering from the amputation of my legs. Tomorrow will be the hands, there was no way to save anything, they will have to be completely amputated. So I want to ask you for prayer. Thank you all for your financial help so that my family can stay by my side”, he expressed on August 15.

Hours after her surgical intervention, her daughter shared new details about her state of health. He assured that the surgery went well, and “now it is to hope that the wounds heal without problems”, but they requested the support of those who wish to show solidarity with their mother, to continue covering the expenses of their treatment and their stay in the country, of the relatives who are taking care of her.

What does the Streptococcus pyogenes bacterium do in the body?

Some experts have mentioned that the Streptococcus pyogenes bacterium, also known as group A streptococcus, is a type of microorganism that when it enters the human body, can cause various diseases in those who carry it.

The affectations in some cases can be mild, but in the majority they are serious, and usually manifests itself through throat infections, together with severe joint pain and fever; skin problems, such as sores and redness; sometimes skin rashes, such as scarlet fever; and in the organs. It mainly affects the kidneys and the heart, generating worrisome failures.
