Typically, in cardiac arrest situations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is attempted to restart the heart as quickly as possible. The chances of survival decrease significantly over time. CPR is most effective when started within the first few minutes after cardiac arrest.

For this reason, many people have been greatly surprised and many believers have come to assure that the case of the woman who survived after three days with her heart stopped is a miracle.

How did he manage to survive?

The young protagonist of this incredible story had fulminant myocarditis that stopped her heart from functioning for seventy-two hours, during which time doctors operated on her, according to the Chinese newspaper, Global Times.

Because the young woman suffered from sleep problems, it was common for her to stay awake until late at night. For this reason, her immune system was strongly weakened, that is, her body became more vulnerable to infections and diseases.

Unfortunately, the woman caught a cold, which led to myocarditis and over time a series of complications were generated that ended in cardiogenic ‘shock’.

After suffering cardiac arrest, the patient underwent surgery with a respiratory and circulatory support technique that is commonly used in resuscitation called ECMO. The health professionals performed this maneuver for three days without receiving a positive response until, finally, the young woman’s heart began to beat normally again.

Thanks to the hard work of the team of doctors at the hospital in the city of Xi’an, in northwest China, the woman was conscious for 72 hours. She even talked to the people around her and managed to chat on Wechat with her friends and family who were worried about her health.
