Five (05) members of two (02) networks of motorcycle thieves who operate in the districts of Adidogomé and Agoè Logopé in Lomé were arrested by the Research and Investigation Brigade of the General Directorate of Police National (BRI-DGPN).

According to Police nationale, the names A. Martin, D. Kokou and A. Tsévi, all Togolese members of the first network were arrested on March 29, 2023 in a makeshift house behind the Kégué stadium. They were in the process of dismantling the stolen motorcycles in order to invert the different parts of said motorcycles to make them unrecognizable by their owners and the investigators.

In a note, the Police specifies that this arrest follows the investigation opened by the BRI-DGPN for the theft of two (02) motorcycles from a home in Agoè Logopé, on the night of March 27 to 28, 2023.

“Indeed, individuals broke into a house while the occupants were sleeping and managed to take away the two (02) motorcycles that were in their garage. Seized, the investigations of the BRI-DGPN made it possible to locate and find the place where the thieves engaged in the dismantling of their loot. Following a search, the two stolen motorcycles were found as well as a third belonging to the leader of the band, named ‘BEN’. The latter managed to flee, ”says a note from the Police.

The second network is made up of people named Djidoula and Kokou. They were arrested in Adidogomé in possession of a motorcycle thanks to the intervention of the population who was alerted by a motorcycle taxi driver. He had found the behavior of the two (02) thieves suspicious. It was on the night of April 02 to 03, 2023. When questioned, the named Kokou said that he knew the house well and that he knew that at night the motorcycle was usually parked there in the yard. He therefore climbed into the said house at night. Helped by his friend Djidoula, they managed to take the bike with the intention of reselling it in Ghana. And it was at this moment that the motorcycle taxi driver surprised them, ”says the document.

The Police reassures that these thugs will all be presented to the Public Prosecutor to answer for their actions, and that investigations are continuing with a view to arresting the other members of these networks.
